Meet the Amgen Volunteer: Jeff Reagan’s Experience with Khan Academy

Jeff Reagan
Scientific Director
San Francisco, California

Why did you apply to volunteer with Khan Academy?

It all started with the Dirac delta function. A while back, I was interested in learning more about it and I found a Khan Academy YouTube video that explained the Dirac delta function very well. This was by far the best and most clear video about it on YouTube. Ever since, I’ve been a big fan of Sal Khan because he has impressive credentials and presents engaging content.

Once I saw the volunteer opportunity posted on MyAmgen, I was excited to participate. I regularly use Khan Academy content to supplement my continuing education, so it was a good fit.

What was your role?

I primarily watched chemistry videos, looking out for errors and offering suggestions. I took my role very seriously. I actually found it very challenging because the videos were excellent to start with. I never found an error.

What was unique about this experience?

The internet has allowed the democratization of learning, so it was great to do my small part to help out Khan Academy, which has been very beneficial for me. Khan Academy is great because anybody anywhere can learn if they have an internet connection — that is a profound significance for humanity.
